Description

Some of the prettiest blue flowers we see in our gardens, the Cote D’Azur Siberian Iris features abundant, striking cobalt-blue flowers that will not go unnoticed! This is definitely one of those perennial flowers you’ll look forward to seeing bloom every year, which occurs in late spring to early summer. Even when not in bloom the upright clump of grassy foliage stays clean and attractive throughout the season providing a nice vertical accent in the garden. Highly adaptable, you can grow Cote D’Azur in most any moist but well-drained to periodically wet soils or containers, and full sun to part shade. Established plants have shown good drought tolerance in our gardens.

Landscape & Garden Uses

While most Iris are grown only in flower garden beds, Cote D’Azur is one we consider as a “landscape iris.” The dense foliage clumps it forms are excellent vertical accents in the landscape that can be used in design much like we use many ornamental grasses. Growing up to 30 inches tall and spreading slowly to 2 feet in width, Caesar’s Cote D’Azur Iris is ideal for use as an accent in smaller garden spaces and is truly stunning in groupings in larger landscape borders. It’s such a neat, vertical clump that remains attractive throughout the year that we have no problems suggesting it for use as an accent or in groupings in home foundation plantings. The perfect centerpiece for combination container gardens. A fine addition to blue theme gardens, Iris gardens, rock gardens, Asian gardens, Zen gardens and cottage gardens.

Suggested Spacing: 18 inches apart for mass plantings; 4 feet or more apart for space between plants

Growing Preferences

The Cote D’Azur Iris is easy to grow when planted in moist but well-drained soils of average to low fertility in full sun to light shade. Very low maintenance, after having cut the plant back to the ground in late winter, we feed with an organic plant food.
