A Fleuroselect Gold Medal winner, Ellagance Purple is an outstanding English Lavender variety selected on the basis of its uniformity, color, and extremely free-flowering and floriferous qualities over a prolonged period of time during the season. Whether it’s used to line sunny pathways, planted in drifts, or added to combination containers, Ellagance Purple performs like a champ in the garden, producing masses of fragrant, intense purple-blue flower spikes atop bushy mounds of silver-green foliage from early summer through early fall. Its dried flowers are widely used in potpourris, sachets and floral arrangements, and the butterflies and beneficial pollinators in the garden love them. Plant this one near patios, porches, decks and other outdoor living spaces where the lovely flowers and aroma can be enjoyed. For a soothing effect, brush the foliage with your fingers and rub it on your arm.

Growing 12 to 14 inches tall and 12 inches wide, Ellagance Purple Lavender is ideal for use as an accent in smaller garden spaces and mixed container gardens, or in groupings, mass plantings, or as a low border in landscape, perennial or herb gardens. A fine addition to herb gardens, purple theme gardens, cut flower gardens, cottage gardens, rock gardens and fragrance gardens.

Growing Preferences

Lavender is easy to grow in a moist to somewhat dry well-drained soil of average to low fertility and plenty of sun. Constantly soggy soil or standing water is problematic. If desired, the plant can be cut back by one-third its height after flowering to maintain a fuller plant. For example, if your plant is 15 inches tall you can cut it back to 10 inches tall.
