Description

‘Little Moore Red’ Loropetalum boasts frilly deep red flowers atop its intense deep burgundy-purple foliage. The spring flowers have no pink in them – just red hot, and they really pop against the the foliage! This drought tolerant and low maintenance shrub is sure to provide rich color and charm in the sunny or partly shaded areas of the landscape.

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing to about 4 to 6 feet tall and wide, or kept smaller with occasional pruning, Little Moore Red Loropetalum is an ideal choice as an accent, in groupings or mass plantings, or in straight or staggered rows as a hedge in home foundation plantings and landscape borders. Its low water needs makes it suitable for use in Xeriscape plantings. The year round deep purple (almost black) foliage contrasts nicely with plants that have yellow, light green, grey or other light colored foliage or flowers. A fine addition to black or red theme gardens and large containers with a rim diameter of 16 inches or more.

Suggested Spacing: 3 to 5 feet apart for solid hedge; 8 to 10 feet or more apart for space between plants

Growing Preferences

Little Moore Red Loropetalum is very easy to grow in most any average moist but well-drained soil and full sun to part shade. Established plants are exceptionally drought tolerant. As with so many other ornamental plants, constantly soggy or wet soil can be problematic. So make sure to plant in a well-drained site. Foliage is more dense and deeper in color in full sun. Requires no pruning, however responds very well to almost any amount, making it an excellent choice for hedges.
