Description
A rare and unique Camellia native to the central mountains of Taiwan, the ‘Mount Noko’, scientifically known as Camellia transnokoensis, features a profusion of white and red spotted buds that open to fragrant, bell-shape, small flowers with white petals surrounding a cylindrical clump of yellow tipped stamens from mid winter to early spring. The back side of each petal is adorned with a cute red spot. The flowers contrast nicely with the reddish orange new leaves which are emerging at the same time. This evergreen beauty forms an upright, vase-shaped shrub to 10 feet in height and 7 feet wide clothed in glossy, oblong green leaves. Can be grown as a shrub or lover branches can be removed to form an attractive small tree, Plant this one near patios and other outdoor living spaces where the fragrance can be enjoyed from close up.

Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 6 to 10 feet tall and 4 to 7 feet wide, the Mount Noko Camellia can be grown as a shrub or small tree. As a shrub it is ideal for use as a specimen in small to mid-size garden spaces or in groupings in larger landscape borders. Nice as espalier (trained to grow flat against a wall) in home foundation plantings. As this camellia grows taller lower branches can be removed to form a highly attractive small evergreen tree that serves well as a specimen in landscape borders and home foundation plantings. A fine addition to camellia gardens, fragrance gardens, white theme gardens, cottage gardens and woodland borders. Also suitable for containers.

Growing Preferences
Camellia adapt well to various soil types however prefer a moist but well-drained acidic soil that is rich in organic matter. Constantly soggy soil is a slow killer. In general, Camellia grows and blooms better in partial shade with some shelter from the hot afternoon sun. Morning sun with afternoon shade or filtered sunlight is perfect. All-day filtered sun is fine.
