Description

A 2002, University of Georgia release, Ochlockonee has a vigorous, upright growth habit. It is an excellent yielding, late season producer of light blue, medium-large size berries that are firm, have good flavor, and a dry stem scar. As a late season flowering and ripening rabbiteye, Ochlockonee has good resistance to late frosts/freezes, and also stands-up well to mechanical harvesting.

Growing Preferences

Blueberry plants grow best in an acidic (pH of 4.8 to 5.2), organically rich, moist, well-drained soil in full sun to part shade. The more sun the better for best berry production. The shallow, fibrous roots of blueberry plants like a consistently moist but well-drained soil which can be provided by with a layer of organic mulch. Although blueberries are self-fertile, cross-pollination produces the best fruit crop (larger berries and larger yields). Therefore it is best to plant more than one variety that will bloom at the same time. Blueberry season can be extended by planting early, mid-season and late varieties. Vigorous, planted beside a Powder Blue from Home Depot and after only ~3 months it has much more growth. Much more resistant to fungal spotting than my Powder Blue.
Berries were on bush when it arrived, but pollination must not have been good as berries are small with many dropping. Same situation with Powder Blue purchased and planted around same time. Will know next year true berry quality after proper pollination. Looks promising as berries are even more numerous than any of my other 5 varieties (A Sharp Blue is close 2nd)—————————————-We are so glad you are pleased! Beth | WBG
