Receiver of the Classic City Award from the Trial Gardens at the University of Georgia inn 2019, here’s what the trial gardens staff had to say about the Poquito Butter Yellow Agastache. “’Butter Yellow’ brought its ‘A’ game to the garden with showy strong yellow flower spikes. While many Hummingbird Mints tend to blend into their surroundings due to wispy stems and leaves, Butter Yellow did not. Despite it being the shortest of the seven cultivars we trialed this year, ‘Butter Yellow’ stood out from the rest of the cultivars due to its bold visual appeal.”

Butter Yellow Agastache, what we also call Hummingbird Mint for to its attraction to hummers and its fragrance, has also been a top performer in our gardens. It is a vigorous growing compact selection featuring abundant showy spikes of tubular flowers in shades of yellow that were perfectly designed for hummingbirds. The flowers stand out nicely against the green licorice-mint scented foliage from spring continuing well into fall. A great plant for beneficial pollinators and drought tolerant once established, it is excellent in garden beds or containers. Provide a full to mostly sunny location in a well-drained soil for optimum health and best flowering.

Landscape / Garden Uses

Growing 12 to 15 inches tall and wide, Poquito Butter Yellow Agastache is ideal for use a solo or accent in small garden spaces and containers or in groupings in sunny perennial borders. A fine addition to hummingbird gardens, butterfly gardens, beneficial pollinator gardens, cottage gardens, fragrance gardens, and orange theme gardens.

Growing Preferences

Poquito Butter Yellow Agastache is very easy to grow in a well-drained soil of average fertility and full sun to mostly sun for best flowering. A constantly soggy or wet soil can cause root rot so make sure to plant in a site with well-drained soil and plenty of sun. Deadheading is not necessary however periodic removal of spent flower spikes will help to keep the plants looking clean and fresh as well as to make way for new flower spikes.

I recently received this and got it planted, so kind of too early to give a review of the actual performance, but want to let you know that I love your company, I have sung your praises to another avid Gardner and he is now a client of yours. I had my entire front yard bulldozed 2 years ago and new beds created for a pollinator garden, this is the second year and I am very pleased with the perennials that I had ordered for you all last year, this particular perennial seems to be a bit “tender” in zone 5, I did loose a few and a couple were very slow to emerge, so will give them a bit of insulation in the fall to help with the extreme temp fluctuations we had in the Chicago area in the spring .
