Description
Developed by and named after Margie Jenkins, a true Southern lady who has been blazing the trail in nursery industry since 1962, the ‘Southern Lady’ Pieris is a heat tolerant beauty born in Louisiana that will thrive all over the South and as far north as USDA Zone 6. In early spring, pure white, fragrant, bell-shaped flowers dangle in abundant clusters that shine against the backdrop of deep green, evergreen, leaf spot resistant foliage. Following the flowers candle-like flames of red new leaves emerge that age to deep green. In winter pinkish-red flower buds adorn the shrub providing additional interest in the garden. Southern Lady Pieris is an excellent choice for partially shaded landscape and flowering shrub borders and foundation plantings.

Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing about 4 feet tall and equally as wide, the Southern Lady Pieris is ideal for use as an accent, in groupings, mass plantings, or as a natural hedge in shady to partially shaded landscape and woodland borders and home foundation plantings. Pieris do especially well on fertile embankments, hillsides and slopes. Also suitable for growing in containers. A fine addition to Asian-theme gardens, white theme gardens, and cottage gardens.
Suggested Spacing: 3.5 feet apart for solid hedges and mass plantings;  6 feet or more apart for space between plants
Growing Preferences

Plant your Southern Lady Pieris in a moist but well drained acidic soil that is rich in organic matter and part shade to shade. Morning and evening sun are fine but avoid direct afternoon sunlight. Filtered afternoon sun is ok.
